This article will show you how to build a breakfast island with cabinets, to add extra cabinet space and another eating area in your kitchen.

Instructions

How to Build a Breakfast Island with Kitchen Cabinets

    1

Measure out your kitchen island dimensions. It should be wide enough to contain your cabinets and as long as you want.

    2

Build a wall using 2 x 4s that is as long as the island and as high as the cabinets.

    3

Install the wall where you want your island. Secure it to the floor with nails, screws or adhesive and cover the backside with drywall. If you want, you can build it in a "U" shape and to wrap around the cabinets.

    4

Attach your cabinets to this wall using small screws or glue.

    5

Cut your counter top to size. Normally, it should overhang the wall-side by six-inches or more, and the cabinet side by only a few inches.

    6

Attach your counter top to the cabinets. In some cases, you will have to attach 2 x 4s or 1 x 4 boards to the cabinets first, before you secure the counter top to the boards. Use a strong wood adhesive to attach the counter top to the cabinets.

    7

Let dry. You have now built your own breakfast island!
