How to Build a Breakfast Nook

You may not always need to sit in the formal dining room for your meals. And a standard kitchen table and chairs may be too big to fit in a smaller kitchen. Plus they tend not to offer the same cozy atmosphere that a breakfast nook does. It's easy to build a breakfast nook and you don't even need a lot of space to do so.

Instructions

    1

Realize that although breakfast nooks all follow a basic design, there are many variations on the design. Look at photos and plans to find out which variation works for your space and fits your personal style. You can also get a custom designed nook.

    2

Select the type of wood you would like to use when you build your breakfast nook. Do this after you've decided on a plan. Wood selection usually matches the decor of the kitchen, but you can also paint the wood to match a more contemporary looking kitchen decor. Create a cut list, which is an inventory of all the pieces need to build a breakfast nook.

    3

Spend some time choosing good upholstery that's interesting to look at and durable enough to last through many uses. If you add the upholstery through seat cushions, then you can change the design with the seasons. If your upholstery is in the seat design, then you'll need to make sure you choose something that you'll like for a long time since it'll take some work to replace.

    4

Cut the wood according to the specifications outlined in your plan, if you're doing the building yourself. Assemble the pieces and install the breakfast nook in the corner of your kitchen. You can also hire a contractor to do the actual building once you've figured out what you would like.
