How to Match Appliances Without Buying New Ones

Whether you're selling your home or have simply gotten tired of mismatched appliances, getting can appliances to match is achievable. With very little money, you can change the look of appliances for a more balanced and even look in your kitchen. It will take a bit of work to complete the project, but it's well worth it.

    Use appliance paint. Appliance paint has changed a lot over the years. You can now achieve a professional look for very little money. It's important that you follow the directions exactly. Not doing so could result in drips or damaged appliances. Of course, you must apply the product outside as the fumes can be toxic. Appliance paint will cost roughly $8 per bottle.

    Purchase stainless steel foil. If you love the look of stainless steel, but hate the cost, you're in luck. You can actually buy stainless steel foil that sticks to your appliances. All you have to do is measure the foil according to your appliance and cut it to fit. Peel off the backing and stick it to your appliances. It's that simple. Best of all, it's extremely affordable. You could cover all of your appliances for less than $200.

    Upgrade to a cabinet like finish. Some appliances can easily be upgraded to match your cabinets. If you're installing new cabinets, take to the manufacturer about ordering panels for your refrigerator and dishwasher. If you're handy with power tools, you may even be able to create this look yourself. The cost of this project will vary, depending on appliance size and materials.

    Apply colored Plexiglas. If you recently purchased a colorful appliance, match other appliances in your kitchen by attaching Plexiglas. Because plexiglas comes in a large variety of colors you're bound to find one that matches your new appliance. You can either make your own panel, or purchase trim kits that hold designer panels. Refrigerator trim kits cost around $80 to $150, depending on the size of your refrigerator.

    Flip the door insert on your dishwasher. Something many people overlook is that many dishwasher panels can be turned over to reveal another color. The reverse side of the panel is usually either white or black. This is not only an easy way to match appliances, but it's free.
