How to Use Decorative Aggregate in Concrete Counter Tops

Rather than be stuck with a plain concrete counter top, you can add some interest and beauty with decorative aggregates. These aggregates can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like, as well as be any material you can imagine.

Instructions

    1

Choose the decorate aggregate you would like for your concrete counter top. This can crushed glass, beads, marbles, pieces of ceramic, semi-precious stones or whatever strikes your fancy.

    2

Decide which method you'd like to use for your decorative aggregate. You can put it into the forms before you pour the concrete, or mix it in with the concrete. The benefit of the second application is that the spacing of the aggregate will be more even. Should you wish to make more concrete counter tops in the future with decorative aggregate, you can replicate the "recipe."

    3

Select the method of placing the decorative aggregate into the form first when the aggregate is more expensive, because you will not have to use as much aggregate in your concrete counter top. You can even glue the aggregate to the bottom so it rises to the top in a specific pattern.

    4

Grind the surface of the concrete counter top to expose the decorative aggregates, then polish and seal it.
