How to Install Hardware on New Cabinets

How to Install Hardware on New Cabinets

Installing hardware on new cabinets can be easily accomplished. This article focuses on the installation of pulls or knobs on cabinet doors and drawers. A pull requires two screws to attach, a knob just one.

Instructions

    1

If installing hardware that requires two screws, be certain the space between the two holes that you drill are precise. Drill the holes from the front of the door instead of the back, as splintering may occur.

    2

Clean any splintering off the back of the door before installing the screw into the hole. Insert a screw through one of the holes and align it with the back of the hardware. If two screws are required, do not tighten the first one before starting the second.

    3

Mark the drawer where your hardware will be installed. In most cases, it will be centered on the drawer front.

    4

Measure the center of the drawer front; measure both the width and height.

    5

If this hardware requires two screws, split the difference of the space between the two screws and mark the drawer front accordingly. For example, if there is a 3-inch space between the screws in the hardware, mark 1 inches in either direction of the center mark.
