How to Seal a Concrete Counter Top

Now that you have created a concrete counter top and have polished it, now it's time to seal it. Giving your counter top a good seal not only helps to preserve it by keeps it looking shiny as well. This eHow can walk you through the steps.

    Sand the concrete counter top until it's smooth, and then polish it.

    Use a water-based sealer to seal the concrete counter top. Apply the sealer with a with a paint roller which allows you to apply the sealer evenly and thoroughly.

    Apply the sealer to the sides of the concrete counter top as well as the top. To make that easier to accomplish, you can put the concrete counter top up on dowels (if you are not sealing the counter top while it's in place).

    Allow the counter top to dry for a couple of hours.

    Use the sander again on the concrete counter top, then wax it with a food-safe wax. Reapply the wax to your concrete counter top once a month. This will create a protective layer that will help keep it shiny.

    Buff the concrete counter top with a with a power buffer to create a more even finish.
