How to Fit Kitchen Worktops

Installing kitchen worktops includes fitting your stove opening correctly. Your worktops must fit against your walls properly so that the job finishes clean and neat-looking. Fitting your sink hole in its proper place also falls into the category of fitting kitchen worktops.

Instructions

    1

Fit kitchen worktops by considering modern-form worktops. These tops are one piece with a 4-inch backsplash built in with them. They are laminated with one full sheet of laminate plastic. They have a 3/8-inch scribe lip built on the back of the 4-inch backsplash which you may cut to fit your walls if they don't run true.

    2

Mark with a pencil flat against your wall on the top of your counter. This mark shows where your wall is not running true. Cut your mark out with a skill saw by pulling your saw backwards so it won't chip the sheet plastic. Now, take a belt sander and smooth the cut you made on the top of your backsplash when you fit kitchen worktops.

    3

Get ready to prepare your stove opening for a correct fit. If you're using a 30-inch free-stand stove, your opening must be 30 inches. If your wall is out of square, your opening may not be correct and you must cut the edge of your top out of square. You may do this by turning your top upside down and cutting from the bottom. This avoids chipping your sheet plastic. After cutting, re-apply the end cap (the finished end to your worktop).

    4

Use a square-edge worktop when you fit kitchen worktops. These worktops are made in two pieces. The deck of the worktop is normally 25 inches deep (standard kitchen depth) with a 4-inch separate backsplash. This backsplash helps to contour your wall when it's not straight. You may glue this backsplash on your wall to hide imperfections in your wall. Use contact adhesive. This top makes a clean fit for irregular walls.
