Installing a Stainless Steel Backsplash

    1

Shut off the electric to the power in the area you will be working. Remove all outlet and switch covers. Starting at one end of the backsplash, tape the craft paper to one end of the wall and roll it out over the rest of the backsplash. Press it into place. With the utility knife, cut along the top and bottom edges so that the paper fits snugly against the wall. Tape the paper into place. Using the utility knife, cut out where the electrical outlet and switches are located. Remove the paper carefully since this is the template that will be used to cut the stainless steel. Use this template to order a pre-cut piece of stainless steel at a sheet metal fabricator or the local home improvement store.

    2

Prepare the wall for installation by cleaning it thoroughly. Cover the counter top with newspaper to protect it from getting nicked by any sharp edges of the stainless steel backsplash.

    3

With the caulking gun, apply the construction adhesive to the back side of the stainless steel backsplash. Spread it out with a putty knife, making sure that it is smooth and that there are no bumps of adhesive.

    4

Put the sheet of stainless steel into its position on the wall. When it is in the correct position, begin to press firmly while smoothing it out along the entire wall.

    5

Using the caulking gun, caulk the area between the counter top and the backsplash with silicone caulking.
