How do you install cabinet knobs and drawer pulls consistently and accurately without making mistakes. It is done with a location and drill jig. Follow these instructions and you will have a jig that can be used on both right-hand and left-hand doors.
Instructions
- 1
Determine the location of the knobs for your cabinets.
This can be done using stickly tack on the knobs
Install several knobs cabinets to help set the locations
3Select the final location and measure the distance from the side and bottom of the door. Write down these measurement for reference.
4Mark the location for the knob on the piece of hard wood (jig) approximately 1/2" from the top and right edges of the jig.
5Measure over the left edge the distance of the knob from the side of the door and draw a vertical line on the jig.
6Then draw a second line to the left 1/2 the diameter of the dowel pins. Mark a dowel pin location on this line parallel with the knob location. Measure down the second line 1-1/2" down and mark a second dowel pin location.
7Measure down from the knob location on the jig the distance from the bottom of the door and add 1/2 the diameter of the dowel pin. Mark this location for the dowel pin.
8Drill the dowel pin holes using the dowel pin drill bit. And insert dowel pins so that they protrude out on both sides of jig (this allows the jig to be used for right & left hand door knobs).
9Drill the knob location hole in the jig using the knob drill bit
10You are done the jig can be used for both lefthand and righthand doors just by flipping the jig over.
