How to Measure a Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

Updating your kitchen with function and style can be as simple as buying and installing a new stainless steel sink. Before you buy, however, it's important to measure correctly to ensure that your dream sink fits in your space.

Instructions

    1

Measure your current sink's width, length and depth, and write these dimensions down.

    2

Determine what you would like to improve, such as buying a deeper sink, a wider one, or a double- or single-basin sink.

    3

If you want a wider sink, measure past your current sink to the widest distance both your countertop and lower cabinetry can sustain. Keep in mind that it's possible to notch lower cabinets to accommodate a larger sink, but this could cut down on their function and it's best to work within your cabinet's limits. Write down the maximum width.

    4

Repeat the above step to get your maximum length if you want a longer sink and write this number down.

    5

If you want a deeper sink, open the lower cabinets and measure how far down you could go before you would interfere with plumbing. Note this depth.

    6

Once you have the maximum dimensions written down, it's time to go shopping. Make sure you buy a stainless steel sink that fits within your minimum and maximum dimensions to avoid a headache during installation.
