How to get an Art Deco Kitchen

How to get an Art Deco Kitchen

An art deco kitchen works well if you can't decide on a definite style. It has elements of modern & traditional design. Plus, it appeals to a lot of different people. This makes it worth your investment if you ever decide to sell your house because your design won't be too specific. Best of all, an art deco kitchen works well if you need a makeover on a budget. No one will know that you were trying to save money.

Instructions

    1

Revisit linoleum. This was all the rage in art deco kitchens. Since then, people have veered away from it. Throw out the idea of faux stone, faux wood, faux tile, or faux anything linoleum. People will know that it's not real. Instead, look for something that you can only find in linoleum to really show off the material, such as a strong geometric pattern. This type of flooring is often just a fraction of the cost of other flooring materials.

    2

Go for sleek cabinets. This is another way that you can save money with an art deco kitchen. The cabinets were often unadorned & simply painted. This means that you can probably reface your existing kitchen cabinets which will save you money. The hardware wasn't really elaborate, if there even was any, so this adds up to big savings as well.

    3

Have fun with tile. Your art deco kitchen will feel more luxurious & function better if you have a backslash. This period used a lot of tile. You can even play around with the most expensive, plain tile you can find. Just add in deco colors, or interesting colors & patterns that you like for a unique look. This way it will look intentional instead of the default way to save money.

    4

Go with the appliances that you already have for your art deco kitchen as long as they work well. Even simple white appliances will blend in with the overall theme. Of course you wouldn't find a stainless steel fridge in a 30s kitchen. However the deco period did use some metals, so go with what you love & what you can afford.
