How to Install Knobs on Cabinets

How to Install Knobs on Cabinets

Installing cabinet knobs is not nearly as hard when you have the proper tools handy to do so.

Instructions

    1

The first step in installing cabinet knobs is to decide on placement of the knob.

    2

For overhead cabinets, placing the knob near the bottom of the cabinet is ideal for reaching purposes. Floor level cabinets should have the knobs placed toward the top of the cabinet. Eye level cabinets can have the knobs located in the center of the cabinet.

    3

To install a knob in the center of the cabinet:

    4

Use your tape measure to measure the length of the cabinet. Divide that number by two. Measure that far down from the top of the cabinet and mark your spot.

    5

Then measure out from the edge where the door opens at least one to two inches and mark that spot. Line the marks up and make the final marking. Erase the other two marks.

    6

If there is an opposing cabinet door(two doors meet), repeat steps 4 and 5. Use your level to make sure the marks on each door are level with each other. Adjust if needed.

    7

Load your drill bit into the drill. Make sure the bit you are using is about the same size as the screw that came with the knob. You should be able to hold the two together to tell.

    8

Drill a hole all the way through the wood and back out again. Insert the screw and attach the knob. Repeat for the opposing door.

    9

To install a knob at the top or bottom of a cabinet:

    10

You can simply spot the place where you want to put it, just make sure it is not too close to the edges of the cabinet door. Mark the spot where you want the knob to be.

    11

To install the knob on the opposing door, use your measuring tape to measure the distance from the top and side of the door where you placed the mark on the first door. Make your mark on the second door using those measurements.

    12

Make sure the marks are level.

    13

Drill your holes. Insert the screws and attach the knobs.
